Best Answer – Chosen by Voters you should be able to as long as you get his signature on the policy….I did the same with my brother. He was the owner and i was a full time insured driver and he was totally uninsured on the car, i just had the bills sent to me instead of him.

The insurance must be in the name of the registered owner of the vehicle. Go with your friend to his insurance agent. He can explain the situation to the agent and the agent will guide both of you. If he bought his policy on the internet, have him call the company and explain the situation. Source(s): insurance broker

Nope…the owner has to insure it. He can take out the policy and list you as the primary driver and then you can make the payments on the policy. If you ever let the policy cancel, you won't be able to pick it up again without his signature though. Source(s): agent
