Check your auto policy. If you have it, it will say so. Some insurance companies do provide it, but be sure to check what is covered and the limits. Limits provided for rental cars will not exceed the coverage for your own car and this may not be acceptable to the rental company. Also, it is almost impossible in this day and age to rent a car except with a credit card. Most major credit cards provide full coverage on a rental. But be sure you check this out in advance. A lot of rental outfits know this but will stonewall you into buying their insurance. It is a tremendous profit maker for them. Source(s): Been there, done that

Insurance companies normally sell RENTAL REIMBURSEMENT coverage which comes into play whenever your auto is DISABLED due to a "covered loss."If nothing is wrong with Your car – you will need to buy the coverages provided by the rental agency. Some States provide some coverage under the liability section of YOUR policy but other States only provide the protection on the rental if you have PHYSICAL DAMAGE coverage on YOUR car..It's best to check with your agent and see what THEY suggest.Good luck and I hope this helps! The insurer of the vehicle can provide for 'car rental coverages' if you so desire, at a cost.Generally, many good insurance company already have that 'baked' into the better packages. You should contact your agent, and check what you have, and/or what you need.
