You can not resume a policy that you canceled. If you knew that you were going to put the car back in service you should have asked about suspension of coverage. Many companies allow you to suspend all coverage except comprehensive when you certify that the vehicle will not be operated. The comprehensive remains in force to cover you in the event of fire, theft or vandalism and is a small part of the total premium…

Your policy cannot be reinstated because the lapse was for more than 30 days. No, don't pay a finder's fee! But if your insurance was canceled, that company will probably not accept you for coverage again … at least until you've established 6 months of coverage with another company. You may have to pay higher rates; you may have to find an "assigned risk" insurer. Try Dairyland Insurance, or consult your DMV.
