Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Yes they do. It is to your advantage to provide the insurance company with your social security number for two big reasons:1. It proves you are an American citizen (or permanent resident).and most importantly2. In the event of a death claim, it is easier for insurance companies to pay out the death benefit. There is no question that they would be paying a death claim to the wrong person. (I actually handled a death claim years ago where the person did not list their social security number and it held up payment of the claim for almost 3 months because the insurance company had to verify the identity of the policyholder and the person who died. A woman purchased a life insurance policy, a couple years later got married then died 3 years after she got married but she never changed the name on her policy. When she died the insurance company had to investigate because it listed her maiden name)
