Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Are you the executor of her estate? If not, you can't find out. Period. You're probably really asking, is there a central database where you can look it up. The answer is no.Maybe you're asking, if you're the beneficiary, can someone keep you from getting the money. Again, the answer is no. The insurance company will make the check out to the beneficiary, and mail it directly to them.If you ARE the executor, obviously, you want to get copies of her cancelled checks to see what insurance company she's been paying, for the insurance. That will tell you who the company is. But the bank won't give that to you unless you're the executor. If you don't know who her bank was, you can fax a copy of the court papers naming you executor, and pay a $75 fee to MIB, and they'll tell you which companies have received an application on her, in the past ten years. Then you can call them, and ask if there's a policy.See, when someone dies, it's amazing how many people crawl out of the woodwork and want to know if there's any money coming to them (or even more sad, how to take it away from the kids/spouse/parent so THEY can have it). So it's protected by privacy laws. It's a private transaction, life insurance. Source(s): agent, 21+ years

If you don't have access to her financial papers and file cabinets, and it sounds like you don't, then you may be able to find the policy through MIB. They have a lost life insurance policy locater service just for this very reason. It costs $75 and they search back to see if any life insurance applications have been submitted for a given person. Try that. If it doesn't work then you may just have to start calling companies to see if they have a policy for your sister with you as the beneficiary. Unless you can gain access to her papers (checkbooks and the like) and see who she was mailing payments to, your other option is to ask any close friends or relatives (that are not hiding things from you). You should know that there is no benefit to those that are not giving you this info (except spite)-only beneficiaries can get the money left to them. You should contact your sister's executor and remind him/her of their fiduciary duty.
