Best Answer – Chosen by Voters You are inquiring about the incontestibility period. Most policies have a two year period in which the death cannot be contested by the insuring company. Some companies have a one year incontestibility period and some as high as five years. You will need to check with the company. As long as the incontestibility period has passed, unfortunately, suicide (or any other reason for death) is covered by life insurance. I've been in the business over 20 years.

Suicide is a valid for death benefits, after two years, because it is assumed that if that much time has passed, the suicide would be unrelated to the purchase of the life insurance policy. Source(s): Fundamentals of Risk and Insurance, Vaugh and Vaughn, 2008

Most life insurance does NOT pay for suicide. You will need to check with the insurance company and read the policy very carefully.
