Yes, it is illegal to drive a car that is uninsured in the state of Florida. If a police officer finds out that you are driving uninsured you can be cited. Car insurance is required for a registered vehicle in Florida. To give you an estimate, you will need to pay a reinstatement fee of $150 up to $500 and will need to provide proof of insurance. That someone is absolutely correct. This goes for every State, not just Florida. You need insurance just to get the license Plate or Tags. Who told you otherwise? If your caught driving a vehicle that isn't insured they will give out tickets that will mean points on your license and in some states they will impound the vehicle. until you get insurance-pay the court fee's and fine and pay the impound fee, which alone could run you an initial $170.00 for the first day and a possible $80.00 per day. you do the math. Very expensive proposition driving with no Insurance. Source(s): NY State DMV Employee-Investigator 19 Years
