Is there a drawback to adding fiancee to auto insurance?
My agent is telling me to add my Fiancee to my car insurance policy which saves me about $500 over six months. They are not insuring her vehicle but simply adding her name to my policy as a significant other. Are there any draw backs to doing this?

Not really, if she's got a good driving record which it sounds like she's does. Really just need to make sure your relationship is solid prior to doing so.Make sure they add her just as an additional driver. Your listed as the 'named insured'. If she's included in this 'named insured' status, she's able to make changes to the policy. Also, if things ever change you'll be able to remove her from the policy if she's just listed as an additional driver. Source(s): Claims Adjuster 17yrs

Well, the only way it saves you money, is by getting you a "married" discount – meaning, your agent is telling you to commit insurance fraud. The obvious drawback, is that if you break up without getting married, you'll need divorce papers to take her off the policy. Get another agent. This guy is slime. But, if she DRIVES your car, she should be added as an operator. NOT as a spouse, as an operator.

I would research this a little further. They might stick you in a risk pool and you might not know it. Read the fine print! Remember, they are in business to make money!
