Best Answer – Chosen by Voters The AIG life insurance, general insurance (including commercial) and retirement services are subsidiaries of the parent company, are adequately capitalized, regulated, and are not affected by the short-term liquidity problems we are hearing about. Well, it's true that AIG is financially horrible. They're very close to filing for bankruptcy so I'd be really careful if I were you. But even if you do file out an application with AIG, it is insured like how your bank deposits are insured with FDIC. The amount you're insured for depends on your state and the value of your insurance. Good luck!
