Best Answer – Chosen by Voters That's a tough one, I personally would shop around, try and get the best cash deal and pay out of pocket. Some companies may forgive for a first time accident but rates still go up a little. If for some reason you would switch then to another insurer you get nailed for it. Even if your company forgives the first, if you get involved in another then you're on file for 2 accidents, the forgiveness goes out the window. Either way I think over the next 5 years you will end up paying way more then the thousand bucks. good luck

They will probably go up enough to cover the claim at least.

Check your policy. Some companies offer one free accident (this is the case with Allstate).Otherwise the premiums will increase for at least 3 years ($250×3+$500 deductible) is $1250.I'd shop around and find someone that could do it cheaper, you might very well get away with $1100 in repairs. Depending on the year of the car they might use used parts or sand and paint the area as opposed to the front of the car etc..If you intend to sell it eventually, you'll want it fixed in any event.

check with your agent, see if you have first accident forgiveness on policy. If you don't then search for a body shop that is more reasonable

Where did you damage your car if it's a door or fender you can probably get one from a junk yard and find someone to replace it for you if you can't. Be sure it's somebody you can trust through a friend if you don't the repairer yourself. Insurance companies are as close thieves as you will find without going to a jail.
