There are plenty of insurance companies that are cheaper than State Farm. You can go to Progressive's website and they compare for you. If price is your main concern, State Farm is probably not for you, if you want service and a company that will pay your car to pre-wreck condition, Stay with State Farm and avoid the headache of the smaller companies. Here in Louisiana, State Farm, Farm Bureau, and Allstate pay the best labor rates to shops and have what I think are the best policies for returning your vehicle to pre-accident condition. Smaller companies pay less for labor and sometimes cut you a check as soon as they look at it, based on their labor rate, not necessarily your preferred shop's rate, hoping you will cash it and shop for someone to repair it for the cheapest. I would prefer to pay a little more and not have to fight with the discount insurer's policies of using aftermarket sheetmetal, and not wanting to pay to R/I (Remove/ Install) everything associatied with the repair.

Progressive has saved me about $350 a year. They really researched to find me the best coverages.

Nationwide Insurance has the best rates and coverages for me.State Farm has just about the same coverage except that their deductibles n rates r higher than Nationwide.Thats why i made the switch over to Nationwide. Source(s): Personal Experience

Me & my husband have Wawaneesa. I know it sounds funny, but they are a southern california (other places maybe i dunno) company & they cut our rates in 1/2 from Progressive. They are picky, you have to have a clean record & be at least 26 I think. A friend of your has them also & had accident & they were real helpful, but I don't have firsthand experience on claims.

USAA is really good…my parents have it and we save alot of money every year…my dad had allstate and they charge u tons of money

The best thing you can do is to call around or go on line for quotes. Have your current policy number and VIN number available. You want to get the same or better coverage than you currently carry. If you get a quote, but the coverage is not as good, you aren't helping yourself. They will probably ask your SSN & maybe your DL #. If you are a homeowner, check out the same company for your auto insurance. Some companies will still give you a discount if you are a homeowner even if they don't write your homeowner policy – like Progressive.comIf you are a student, try to get a 3 point or better semester average – many companies give credit for this.If you have multiple cars, insure them all with the same company. If you live with your family, some companies will give a multi car discount even if you have a separate policy from your parents.
