It is both. It doesn't matter what I consider it. It is a game because it has rules. It is a sport because it has eye/hand coordination, planning, strenght, stamina (a couple days ago I walked 9.25 miles carrying a bag), balance, etc. By the way it doesn't matter what you think either it is still both.

I would lean towards a game in its present state (tour level.) I would move to it being a sport with the following changes.1 – Players carry their own bag2 – No caddy/coach/psychologist walking along with playersLess likely, but more interesting3 – Time limits (no waiting for other players, just bomb it into the group ahead.)4 – Fans can cheer during shots (heck, I have to play wile my wife and kids talk, yell, etc., these guys should have to also.) – No comments on teaching them etiquette, we play late in the day, on family-friendly course.

Definition:SPORT 1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. So, yes golf is a sport.. (Duh?)If someone were just a meathead and thought that only cage fighting, boxing, and the NFL are sports, then I could understand how golf could easily confuse them. It is both. It is a game for sure in that you can play it competetively against others for money or fun. I also consider it a sport, although while it might not be as athletic as some, if you walk it's good exercise and the mental side of golf is by fair the most difficult of all sports.

I consider it a game because its just you. Not a team sport. The only exception to this is boxing.

Any activity is considered a sport when it uses one of the following energy systems, namely; Anaerobic Alactic, Anaerobic Lactic and Aerobic energy system.Anaerobic Alactic – requires no oxygen, uses energy stored in body cell for fuel and is the main source of energy for activity lasting up to 10 sec.Anaerobic lactic – requires no oxygen, uses carbohydrate for fuel, produces lactic acid and is the chief source of energy for activities lasting between 10 sec to 2 mins.Aerobic – needs oxygen, uses fats and carbo for fuel, and these are the main source of energy for activities lasting more than 2 minutes.A single golf swing uses the anaerobic alactic energy system while playing the entire round of 18 holes game requires aerobic energy system. Thus to conclude, Golf is really a sports.
