How is having undeveloped, unpaved land bad for the environment? I personally find it a waste of land, but I don't play golf. Do you think parks are bad for the environment? They are pretty much set up the same as a golf course. If you want to talk about wastes of land and not good for the environment, how about racetracks and football stadiums?

Sport Hunting is an extremely wasteful sport. That's why it is controlled with specific time limits. Golf Courses, on the other hand, are designed to be Eco friendly, create undeveloped land areas that are maintained and provide safe recreation. Private Golf Courses (country clubs) attract the "upper class", but the majority of the Golf Courses are public where any "Joe" can play for less than what it costs to go to a ball game. I do not consider Sport Hunting recreation. I do understand/agree with hunting as a population control and for food, but too many hunt just for the kill. Golf is one of the only sports played internationally under the same rules and regulations. The PGA/WPGA and their Stars get the about the same, if not more, media coverage as any other major sporting event! You must really dislike Golf, it's only a game! How about Miniature Golf?

yes, i think it is. However some people like it a lot, it is a luxury sport. So it's like a person who doesn't like cruising to say cruise ships are a waste of metal, and fuel

No; I don't think we should go to the extreme of banning it.But there certainly is merit in what you say.Certainly, 18 holes, spread so far away from tee to hole, all for just a small bunch of interested folks … now that you mention it, it does seem some huge waste; and it certainly is not 'space-representative' of the interested sports world either. In fact, in many countries, it would just be 'criminal' to waste so much space for so little human benefit – especially when many might miss out spatially. It would also tend to boost the price of land and property in the area, making it harder for people to purchase their own properties.I think, if we are going to have golf courses, they should be minimized to only 9 or 6 hole courses: if you want to play your 18 holes, you just go around 3 times. Also, some of the tee off distances are ridiculous for most people. It is probably OK for the serious, international or PGA golf courses to be of current standards, but we waste a lot of water and other resources for a select few in our societies by making most courses of those dimensions!

the only reason you think golf is snobby is because you have to be quiet when they are hitting the ball so you feel like its snobby, unlike football or baseball when you can scream, so golf is fun if you let it be

No its not, horses for courses.

A golf course is a refuge for a lot more wildlife than, say, an amusement park, office building, a neighborhood or parking lot.The Upper Class use it as a social networking medium. It keeps them separated from the lower classes, true. But, it's not the golf that does that. All of their activities are separate from the lower classes. Golf just makes it that much more obvious since there are so many "cross-overs" where lower class people get to play (and therefore, interact) with the upper class.

Though to me golf is a stupid sport, it should not be banned. Lets face it, you can make the point of being wasteful about anything

What about auto racing? Or airplane racing? Or ATV's and smowmobiles? They waste fuel and pollute the atmosphere. If you think about it, you can come up with reasons to ban every pastime known to man–including sex, in many cases. Is that what you want?
