Best Answer – Chosen by Voters If any of us on Yahoo answers really new how to do that time and time again, we would be on the PGA tour making a lot of dough instead of killing time in our cubicles on the internet. But I'll throw in how I attempt it. I don't like to think of shifting weight to the left or sliding the hips as I am fairly tall and I end up sliding too much and blocking the shot right. I like to think of starting my downswing by turning my left hip to the left. When done properly this keeps me behind the ball, and puts me on a lower inside plane (I am a 2 plane advocate).

Shift your weight to your left foot if you are right handed(opposite for left handed) That weight shift should force you into the slot. You dont want to swing your hands into the slot. If you want to really load the shaft and maintain maximum power let the hip turn/weight shift to your lead foot drag your arms/hands into the slot. Do this in a mirror or window you can see yourself in. Take a backswing. now shift your weight to your lead foot and you will see your hands naturally drop down. This is slotting the club.

I'll add something to "josie's" advice above…You need a "tension free" feeling in your hands and arms to really achieve getting the downswing back into the slot. If you have alot of tension built up, its going to make dropping into the slot difficult and everything will be forced.

the first move on your downswing is to shift your weight to your left side and move your hips laterally to the left to clear your body out of the way . let the club drop naturally. that's how your club falls into the slot . if you have a good back swing . this will work great

just make sure you don't lift ur head when u swing at the ball. it will make u either miss the ball completely or top it. ppl tend to do this cuz they want to see where the ball is going. just keep head level, hit, then look..
