stand with the ball further back in your stance. with the same swing applied, you'll naturally hit it lower.

toppers also often flip their wrist so try this drillwith a golf ball in your left hand swing back and when you swing thru open your palm and hold the golf ball out in front of you like you are presenting it to someoneif your left palm is up the ball will sit there and your thin shots will disappear

to hit the golf ball solid you pretty much have to take a divot except with your driver, but to do this you need to put it in the middle of your stance and make sure you keep your head down and instead of trying to lift the ball go down and get it, it will naturally go in the air

Keep your left arm straight, this may feel a little different, and it will shorten your swing, but it will work. And make a sweeping motion through impact of ball. Make sure you get under it, bend your knees, and once again, make sure you get under it! The more you get behind it the harder you have to swing, so swing a little harder when you try this. Hitting it thin is just not getting under it, so get under it. Source(s): Had the same problem, followed these instructions, and started shooting the best rounds of my life.

A number of good answers here. You certainly need to play it further back in your stance and drive the head down through the ball and take a divot directly in front of the ball. To help with this, visualize driving the butt of the club down into the ball. This will help keep your wrist from uncocking prematurely. Remember those hands have to lead the club head through impact. With that said topping it may be more about what is happening with your posture through your swing. You have to remain down looking at the ball through impact. An overly active upper body relative to your lower body can cause all kind of problems, including coming out of that posture. My general swing thoughts are: 1. Get into address, set iron towards the middle of my stance. Flex knees and then bend at the hips until club head makes contact with the grass behind the ball. With this address I'm making sure my back is flat and butt extended out behind me. Another way of visualizing this is your standing on the edge of a cliff and your bending over to look over the edge. Balance..Balance…Balance2. I focus and start my back swing with my right shoulder with the arms moving back naturally. This will encourage a good shoulder turn and avoids bad habits of swinging the club back witht he hands (too far inside, too far outside, or too far back which causes you to stand up in the backswing.)3. Now at the tops to start the downswign you MUST, MUST MUST get below the waist moving first. This allows the hands to drop down in the slot and avoid an outside to inside swing path. This trigger varies with the folks (right hip, knees, left hip). For me this is the left hip firing to the left and behind me and to the sky. This causes the weight to shift, hips to turn, and the left knee to firm up and avoid shifting your weight out beyond the left foot. Once hip starts this movement, drive the butt end of the club down to the ball and remember to stay down though impact. The wrist will release at the last moment and drive down through the ball taking a divot. If this isn't a quick fit, take a 30 minute lesson from a local course. The cost will be offset by the cost of all the buckets spent trying to figure it out. Good Luck.
