Best Answer – Chosen by Voters The stripe is the bend in the grass blade due to the direction of the blade. I can be achieved with either a rotary or reel mower. The trick…as stated above……is consistency. After several mowings exactly the same way each time, the blades develop a bend. Hence the bend is what is causing the color variation, how the sunlight reflects off the blades. Normally we encourage homeowners to vary the mowing direction every few times to encourage the blades not to bend, but to stand upright.

Actually, you can achieve this if you mow your lawn in a consistent grid every week, but you must be consistent. Even a two inch gap on your mowing pattern will screw it up. If you are consistent for about six weeks you will have the look, as long as you have a fescue or similar growing grass. Then after the six weeks cross it, to get the grid look.

you get those by mowing stripes of grass on an angle and then go back the opposite way ,just like lattice work . most of them use a roller to obtain a better stripe http://www.rd.com/images/tfhimport/2004/…http://www.lawnandmower.com/i/Mower-Stri…http://www.scag.com/images/stripingart-d…
