How to design a golf course?
Does anyone have any information about where I can find information about designing a golf course. Some things I am looking to learn are how should I contour the fairways and greens and what factors matter. I am also looking to find a computer program for designing the course (preferably $300 or less). Any information would be greatly appricieted. Thanks

The link below is to a site where they just had a golf design contest. In the second or third post they give links for some tools you could use. There are dozens of real architects who post on that site, including some big names you have probably heard of. You don't indicate whether you're looking to design a course for fun, or whether you actually have a piece of land and are planning on constructing a course. If you're seriously looking to do this kind of work then you might seek some advice on golfclubatlas. Geoff Shackelford's "Grounds for Golf" outlines basic construction techniques as used by the pioneers of the game. He also wrote "The Art of Golf Design." A number of architects have written books. Robert Trent Jones Jr has a book that is on the discount shelves in bookstores. It goes over the basics of strategy and the different schools of design. For anyone who wants to play golf, swing lessons are usually a must; it’s like you can’t do without, since the correct movement is the very basis of this game. Before you start a golf swing lesson as such you need to ask and answer a fundamental question. What do you intend to do in the golf swing or what is the achievement you’re after? There should be square impact in the line of flight and along the one you intended in the first place.
