Let me share with you my personal "EVIL TRIANGLE" theory of golf. The first side of the EVIL TRIANGLE is your clubs. It is absolutely imperitive that you sacrafice one of your clubs so that the others know that you mean business! I suggest snapping your $300 driver over your knee while the others watch and then sticking the two pieces in the ground in a V-shape with a ball teed up in the middle. Lay the other clubs on the ground in a circle around the "sacrafice" and leave them there all night. Believe me they will be scared S***less the next morning and you'll break par. I've tried this (twice) and it works!I've also tried throwing my putter into a lake, but the other clubs don't really get the message. Its like they think the putter is somehow "different" and that it couldn't happen to them. (which it could – and has!)The second side of the EVIL TRIANGLE is your golf balls. Whenever you get a double-bogey or higher you MUST throw or hit the treacherous golf ball OB or into a lake while you swear and curse. Trust me – the others are paying attention! If you really want to give the others an "attitude adjustment" throw a whole sleeve of unopened balls into a lake! This virtually guarantees a birdie on the next hole. The basic psychology behind the EVIL TRIANGLE theory – as you are starting to understand – is that that golf clubs (and most balls) are ALIVE and they are EVIL! They love messing with your game and you must not allow them to get the upper hand. Finally, the third side of the EVIL TRIANGLE is the fu**ing course!! In tournament settings when you are being closely watched, quite frankly there isn't much you can do, but it is generally safe to take the occasional huge divot on a practice swing and "forget" to replace it.Hope this helps. Good luck tomorrow!

I heard this, so while you can award me a best answer.. it is just a quote.Golfers have got to have the worst memories of anyone in sports. No matter what just happened, an Ace or a Double Bogey…. YOU MUST FOCUS ON THE NEXT SHOT AND IGNORE EVERYTHING ELSE.If Tiger woods wasn't a golfer, he would be the finest brain surgeon in the world. IT IS ALL A MATTER OF FOCUS.You obviously are trying to hard & thinking too much.RelaxRemember your pre-hit routineForget what just happendREPEAT 69 times and you will score a 70.

The main thing to remember is that every golfer, from Tiger on down, has bad rounds. It's ineveitable. There is a saying, "Life is 10% what happens and 90% how you react to it". Learn all you can from what happened, use that info to help you moving forward and "build a bridge and get over it". If you have some swing related issues that persist, get a lesson or two.

Barometer soup is totally right, I can tell he is a real golfer.Once you get decent at golf, it turns into mostly a mind game anyways. Keeping your cool may be one of the hardest parts. Ask Rory, John, Phil, Bubba, Tiger, etc, etc, etc Infinity. Source(s): I'm serious.

It seems to me that you already know what your problem was, not hitting down on the ball. Personally when I am playing poorly I try to concentrate on not lifting my head to quickly and not over swinging (swinging too hard) and then I try loosening my grip a tad. And then the hard part, just relax. Good Luck.

I learned a long time ago that there are two very important parts of the golf game. First is the physical side. Hitting the ball properly and at the target at which you are aiming is of great importance. The second part is possibly more important. That is the mental side of the game. You do not want to carry negative thoughts with you on the course. You have to find a routine that will allow you to clear your mind and consentrate on each shot you make. You didn't get to the point of trying out for a College team not being able to hit the ball. I think that you have to many things going on in your mind. With proper mental preparation, if you hit a bad shot, you should get it out of your mind quickly. Relax, regroup, collect yourself mentally and allow the physical part of your game to take over.I meditate and do some stretching exercises before each round of golf. When I go to the range I use the easiest clubs to hit and work back to the long irons and finally the metal woods. I putt on the practice green until I feel the rythem and tempo in my stroke. When I approach the first tee, I tee the ball, stand behind it and select a target line to hit at. I consentrate on that line for a few seconds, take my stance and let the physical side of my game take over. I swing the club with the same tempo as I did on the range. I have the same routine on every hole and for every putt. So, take the time for mental preparation, you obviously possess the physical skills. Source(s): PGA of America
