Is golf a real sport with real athletes?
Is golf a real sport with real athletes?
Not sure how you define a sport, but professional golfers are not athletes.
Not too many sports can a man that's almost a medicare age almost win a major tournament.
And look at that bozo, John Daley!

A sport to me is a contest that requires mental focus and physical performance to win. Chess is not a sport, because there's no physical performance (moving the pieces is simply acting out the mental aspect, not a separate element). Competitive sailing (America's Cup, Race to Mackinaw, etc.) requires strenuous physical activity at times, but not really any mental focus outside of following a course, so not a sport.Golf requires both, and is therefore a sport in my mind. Of course, under my definition shuffleboard is also a sport.

Accepted definition of Sport and athlete:SPORT [spawrt, spohrt]-nounan athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.ATHLETE [ath-leet]–noun a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength; a participant in a sport, exercise, or game requiring physical skill. Golf and golfers definetely qualify under this definition. Just because older people are capable of playing doesn't make it "not a sport." I have seen plenty of older people playing basketball, football, and baseball recreationally. Age isn't a qualifier. The difference with golf is that most of the skill in golf is hand-eye coordination and flexibility. Pure strength just doesn't play as large of a role as it does in "typical sports." It still takes skill, athletic ability, and qualifies as a sport. Source(s): Experienced competitive golferhttp://dictionary.reference.com/

Oh, yeah. Look up "Sport" in Webster's Dictionary… it fits. You're missing some points:1. Have you seen Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, or even Gary Player? Player is in his 70's, and he's in better shape than most baseball players. Just because a golfer doesn't go around showing everyone his muscles doesn't mean he isn't in shape. Besides, try walking 5-6 miles everyday with 25-50 lbs on your back. Unless you're in the military, you won't find anything that compares.2. What about Randy Johnson, or Pele in soccer? Those guys are/were old, yet they still did their jobs.3. Another baseball comparison- John Daly vs. John Kruk. Do I need to say more? Source(s): How about you go out and actually golf (rather than playing it on your X-Box) before making any uninformed remarks.

yes golf is a real sport.i HAVE played every sport pretty much baseball, football, basketball, soccer, …etc. but of all golf is hardest you never have to take lessons for football or soccer or basketball, you do for golf. A REALLY long football pass would be maybe 70 or 80 yrads.. a really long golf shot goes 400 yards or farther.. And it goes that 400 yards faster than a football goes 70 yards. You have to also be smart and skilled to play golf you have to know what distances look like. As a football player has to have the lines drawn out every 5 yards. Also you play golf in all weather conditions meaning it isn't always air conditioned like basketball. Oh and yes John Daley is a bozo and due to that you never see him win. Also in your free time look up the worlds highest paid ATHLETE and see what you get. Source(s): ME

The IOC would disagree with you, as golf is now an Olympic sport for the 2016 Olympics. So by that definition, basketball, soccer, etc are not sports either. It's John Daly.Walking 5-6 miles over 4-5 hours in the elements (heat, rain, wind, cold, etc.) while maintaining focus…easier said than done. It looks so easy, and yet, it's so difficult hitting that little white ball that sits there.

It is a skill and very hard to be successful. I consider it a sport, as with car racing. IT is not like baseball or basketball. Not a team, game, but you still have to have skill and be athletic to do well and win with consistency.

Golf is the most difficult sport to master, try it before making comments like yours. You're a rather ignorant person aren't you. John Daley has personal problems so mind your own business.

Daly has personal demons that he has problems with. Yes golf is a real sport. If you would see the condition Watson is in. He is built for an old guy
