Best Answer – Chosen by Voters It's not a sport. It's a game…like shuffleboard or poker.

Yes. There is physical activity involved and the pros do walk!
2.2.2010
The pros don't use a cart, so it is a sport.

I play a course in the Calif. Foothills,,,,,,,,. La Contenta. Come on down,,ya all can try to walk it…….. my guess is you can,, but you won't be able to play worth a darn,, carts are for the drinkers and individuals who have handicap placards on their cars………. Is golf a sport…?? To quote one of our great leaders " Depends on your definition of …is."

do you see the pros using carts, nogolf is a sport and there is no running or major exercise, yes your correct, but its still should be considered a sport

Real golfers walk. But even if you take a cart, it is a sport.

I consider golf a sport! I have been a fast-pitch softball player for years and when I first started golfing weeks ago……muscles in my body were sore! I didn't even know the names of the muscles that were causing me distress because they were the small short ones. In most sports we use our large motor skills that require use of our larger muscles…….just because your heart rate isnt at its max doesnt mean that you arent working out. I used to make fun of golfers until I picked up a club and I realized how hard it really is!

Obviously, you have never watched an amateur or professional tournament. No carts used.
2.2.2010
I suggest you look up the word "sport"
2.2.2010
ya it should be a sport you dont need to exercise for it to be a sport
2.2.2010
Actually, carts are not allowed in professional competition. Walk an 18 hole course and then tell me if you think it doesn't count as exercise. It's exhausting! Also, behind hitting a baseball, golf is the 2nd most difficult sport in the world. If Golf isn't a sport then nothing is.
2.2.2010
Yes, because it requires more hand-eye coordination than checkers or monopoly.
2.2.2010
i dont use a cart
2.2.2010
I actually don't like using a cart, and lots of people feel the same way, but I agree; there's no physical part to golf so I don't consider it a sport. I call it a gameIt's akin to Monopoly in that sure you have to do some moving to hit your ball or move your piece a few spaces, but it's not physical in the way other sports like soccer or baseball even

Get out there on a driving range and shank several dozen golf balls, then let me know how much of a sweat you worked-up.It's a sport. It's not high-impact, but it still requires skill. Are you at home sitting on your butt, or are you out moving around doing something? Yeah, it's a sport…
2.2.2010
You have a good point i guess im not sure.

NASCAR then wouldn't be a sport. All they do is sit in a car driving around in an oval. Wasting gas, oil, and parts for wrecked, total cars not to mention the repairs for all the cars after a race. Golf is just an outside game where people get together having a good time. It does take skill to hit the ball from 300 to 400 yards down the green and getting it in a hole. But I think in a game where you are trying to win and have either skills and/or luck it can be a sport. According how you look at it, I guess.

Shhhhhhh, quiet!! I'm trying to putt. Don't break my concentration. Hey those announcers 50 yards away are too loud. Make them whisper! No, it's not.

In my opinion it is not a sport. Dont get me wrong, it's unbelievably difficult and I cant play it. I just think for something to be considered a sport there needs to be a way to play defense.
