Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Biggest key to playing well in tournaments is to think clearly. Choose the shots you know you can hit. Don't get bogged down thinking about your score and team score. One shot at a time, focus completely on hitting the shot you are trying to hit, go through your process on the greens, and let the scores be what they will. You know the kind of golf you are capable of playing. If you all push everything out of your heads but the next shot you will do fine. Do not think about score, consequences, anything but going through your process. You can do it, just get out of your own way and do it. Do not let anything bother you, commit completely to the next shot. Source(s): HS coach, +1 hdcp, tournament player

The mind set you need is to play one shot at a time which results in what is known as" course management ".Think only where you want the first drive. Pick a target which gives you the best position for the 2nd shot, etc. If you don't quite hit the shot as envisioned, remember that there is usually a way to recover. On par 3s hit for the centers of the green. Day 2 will give you " sucker pins " which require perfect shots to succeed. If there is a clear opening , the center of the green will leave you makeable putts. Do the very best that you can. One shot at a time !! That is the secret.
