Everyone is different and techniques are different. When i have a bad hole i will tell myself "no harm done" " I can get this back". I will then call my shots for the next hole. Not out loud to others, but, i mumble to myself. I will call out the drive or tee shot I want to hit saying where it will start out and where it will land. I do this for each shot on the hole. I stay focused on hitting just that shot only. It keeps my mind free of other thoughts and it is amazing just how well you can hit the shot you have just called out. Many times you can follow up a trashed hole with a birdie or a good par. Stay positive with all of your thoughts and your actions. Allowing negativity to enter into your game allows disaster to creep in

When you go out on the course, play "worse ball". Hit two shots, from your drive all the way down to holing out. Pick the worst of the two. Hit one drive 280 right down the middle, and one 175 with a duck-hook? Play the duck-hook. Chipped in for eagle, then bladed it to the next tee box? Sorry, try to get back to the green. You need to forget what just happened and focus on getting the ball in the hole, and this drill will definitely do that for you. You may get so pissed that you walk off the course, but stick with it. You'll find that when you can get yourself out of trouble, and knowing you can do it in any situation, it's easier to forget the "bad holes".

Be like Seinfeld and just break even. Golf is about hitting more good shots than bad shots. If you hit 2 bad shots on a par four and 2 good ones, that's even par. Par is always a good score. You haven't given up anything. You can't do anything about a hole you just played because there are other holes to play. You're a good enough golfer to do that.

If you havn't already read it, I would advise you to get "Harvey Pennick's Little Red Book". It shouldn't be to expensive and it helps you not only with mental issues on the course but practice pointers to help improve your swing. I read it and it really helped me focus and I was able to get the high numbers off of my card almost instantly.2 handicap; ranked in top 125 of Texas junior golfers

I know exactly how you feel. I sometimes just have to sit back and breath for a moment. I take a few baseball swings and then try and get back to a few practice swings and try and relax my muscles. If I keep going my muscles keep getting tighter and I do even worse so I just try and relax even though it feels impossible to do.

Personally i feel the best way to become stronger mentally is to get competitive in golf tournaments, when you have a bad your are forced to keep competing. which makes you stronger.
