Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Spin RateMeasured in revolutions per minute (RPM), spin rate determines how far and how straight you can hit a golf ball. Generally, players with higher ball speed will want to keep their spin down, while slower ball speeds will dictate that you increase spin to maximize trajectory and distance.Modifying Spin rate requires a combination of better ball strike ( swing modifications), Proper head loft and shaft response. As a side note: make sure you are not hitting range balls. Range balls are built for durability, not performance. If you're going to find out what driver and golf ball maximizes your distance, you need to have a wide selection of Drivers with different lofts, shafts and technologies along with golf balls for you to choose from.

it means it has a spin rate of 5000 revolutions per minute, and it equates to how much spin along an axis has been generated by impact, and the axis of the spin dictates ball flight. There is always an element of backspin and this along with the ball speed creates the lift needed for the ball to stay in the air (unless you top the ball and you'll see it doesn't stay in the air at all) and it cant be pure side spin as all clubs have loft which imparts some back spin. You haven't said what club you are using but if its a driver then the spin rate is to high, and the could be a number of reasons1. your angle of attack at impact is to steep2. your loft an your driver may be to high3. your driver shaft may be to soft4. or a combination of allif your using a six iron your not far off the ideal mark of 5100-5300 revs per minute so no real need to change.hope this helps a little.Regards.oh and to mirror the answer above if they used range balls to get the reading they are designed to spin more so they don't fly as far so the range doesn't have to be as long, a general rule is they travel 15% less distance than a standard ball. Topspin is impossible unless you cold top the ball. Every golf shot has backspin otherwise. You have 500 rpm of backspin which is too much. Ball speed, launch angle, and ball spin determine how far your golf ball will go. You want high launch angle with low spin for max. distance. You spin is about double that of optimum. It's a common problem. Correcting is a combo of better swing, different ball, different head, different shaft, etc.

It's almost impossible to produce foward spin. It usually means backspin. But look at the analysis more closely and it also might mean side spin. The shorter the club, the more backspin created. You want the least possible backspin combined with a high launch angle with a driver. To get launch ange, get a higher lofted driver. To reduce spin, figure out what shaft has lower spin. Personally, i use a Titliest 909 D2 with a Diamana White Board Stiff. It gets my launch and spin just about perfect. Try going to a golfsmith and ask for a tech guy to fit you out. Usually backspin. You are getting to much backspin on the ball when it comes of your club head. Quit chopping down on the ball and creating the backspin. You aren't swinging through the ball, you're cutting down on the back side of the ball.
