Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Under no circumstances should you buy him golf clubs. The golf bag and JD is a great gift that he should really enjoy. Buying clubs however is whole different ball game. There are many many things to take into consideration beyond the brand of clubs. Things like whether he wants/needs custom fittings. What stiffness of shaft does he need (I'm talking about on the club). Should he have graphite or steel. Should he carry hybrids or long irons. On and on and on. Your best bet would be a gift certificate to a local good quality golf retailer and let him pick out his own clubs.

If he normally rents clubs then he should be a beginner? Try the Mizuno MP-22 Good clubs for beginner to experienced players… should last him for 5-6 years…Any kind of wedges or putter will work, that becomes personal preference…. and he will likely change that pretty often as he becomes better….As far as a driver… get him a King Cobra… they are very easy to hit… and again, drivers get changed very often… don't forget hybrids instead of fairways woods… easier to hit, and more pros are starting to use them…don't go too expensive…. just in case he doesn't get into it

every golfer has different preferences. get him a gift card to rockbottomgolf.com or golfgalaxy.com and let him choose. Golf galaxy would be better because he can get them off line or go to one of their stores and buy them. Everyone on here will have a different opinion, but you cant buy them by brand alone because each brand will have several different types of clubs. They can cost anywhere from $200 (used clubs) to 1800+ for top of the line clubs pick a number, and if it is more than he ends up spending he can always use the extra money for balls and gloves and other stuff.
