Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Not the biggest comeback, but one of my favorite stories is the performance of Tiger Woods in the 1997 Masters. He shot a +4 (40) on the first nine, then went on to set a record 4-round score at the masters, as well as winning by the largest margin of victory in masters history. Have you seen the movie "The Greatest Game Ever Played"? I think it's a true story about Frances Oueme' playing against Harry Vardon in the US OPEN. Francis starts gaining up the ladder from the 28th position, just until the last holes on the 4th round, he is tied with Harry Vardon. The best thing about this round, Francis was only an amateur and Harry Vardon was a pro and the Tiger Woods of the 1900 century.

Ben Hogan is the biggest comeback in the history of Golf. Not just a single round, but how he came back from his car accident (when they thought he was dead at the scene) to not only play golf again, but to win tournaments.

The greatest comeback in golf occurred in the World Matchplay tournament at Wentworth G C, England, on 14th October 1965 when Gary Player made up 7 shots in the last 17 holes of his 36 hole semi-final match against Tony Lema. After squaring the match on the 36th, Player won the 37th hole to go into the final against Peter Thomson of Australia, who beat Arnold Palmer in the other semi-final. Player triumphed in the final by beating Thomson 3 and 2. He went on to win this prestigious matchplay championship a further 4 times: 1966, 1968, 1971 and 1973.
