The tournament committee establishes the format, the cut line and the number of qualifiers it will take for its event. Some work on the basis of the top 60 and ties. Other venues allow 70 and ties with an additional cut after 54 holes of play. The Open takes all those players who are within 10 strokes of the leader. In match play the increments are 8, 16, 32 or 64 with playdown eliminations ending with 2 who determine the winner and the runner up.

Also For proline or double play golf wagering, if both golfers complete the same number of holes, and neither withdraws or is disqualified, the golfer whose total score is three or more strokes lower than the other golfer in the tournament is the winner. If a Tie or if they differ by only one or two strokes, the result is a "Tie". normally top 70 and ties make the cut regardless of how far behind the leader they are.
