Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Lessons are the way to go. You will be shown the proper position of the hands on the club, ball placement, when to use what club. Some people can learn from a book and some can't or maybe not as well.

My beginner lessons were one on one with a serious player, who'd helped many in the past. He reviewed my skills, and we started from square one lol. (Your case may be different) He basically disected a correct swing, showed me the various parts of it, and had me demonstrate my understanding of each part to him. After each lesson he had me work on that particular portion of the swing each week untill we met again. Slowly building up each component of the swing, until by the 5th lesson we were actually using a full swing. After each lesson, the most swing that I was allowed to use, was what I'd learned in a previous lesson, in order to forget old (bad) habits. Unless your course is specific don't expect a full rounded lesson as in driving chipping, and or putting. It will generally be one of them only. I gave the instruction an A+ in my book, as being a contributing factor to improving my game. Source(s): personal experience

Beginners Guide To GolfGet on the Course and Give it a Swing! But before you do that (and risk embarrassing yourself) why not start out on the right foot with a quick overview of the sport, how it’s played and how to make the right decisions (and shots) that make you look like an old pro? Like any other game rules and skill, and other variables, will affect your performance. Have you ever seen cartoons about a frustrated golfer? Be prepared – golf is as much a mental game as a physical one. Secret tips to control your frustration can give you an immense advantage, even over experienced players who let it get the better of them. What about clubs? Which one is used for which shot? Making smart decisions is what wins the game and that’s why pro golfers have experienced caddies to give them advice on the course – but you don’t have that. An overview of clubs and when to use them will show others you’ve got the know-how! http://ipodmovieworld.com/beginners-guid… Source(s): http://www.learn-golf-course.com/golfcou…

Lessons will teach you the basics of the golf swing. Practicing the things taught to you on the golf course or range until they are ingrained is the secret. With each lesson be sure to do 4 to 5 hours of practice before taking the next one.
