Which would be the best golf set for a beginner?
I am purchasing a golf set for my fiance for Christmas. He is a beginner and I am not looking to spend a lot of money aka purchasing at wal-mart or target. I am aware they are not the best sets, but like I said he is a beginner. These are my options.
Cougar xc-3
Titan 460
Top Flite XL
John Daly XDS
Which would be best?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Top flite. Many beginners use them, and probably the most common begiinners set out on the market. Go for those, they are the best

Expensive clubs will help a good golfer get better but will only frustrate and bankrupt a beginner. In a beginner's set look for steel shafts which are easier to control. Concentrate on clubs you can actually hit well at times and not the more difficult 2,3 and 4 irons. A good starter set should include the 5-9 irons, a pitching and sand wedge, a driver and a utility club like a 7 wood. One area where you will not want to cut corner is in choosing a putter. Pick one out that feels comfortable to you and is sized properly to your height. There is an old adage that goes " drive for show but putt for dough". Truer words were never spoken. Why don't you invest a few bucks into some introductory lessons where a qualified and understanding teaching pro will show him the proper stance, grip and swing. I think that's better. You can buy a used golf set than buying him a new golf set. Just a thought. The choice is yours. Have a good day and Merry Christmas.

You should buy him a gift card at a golf store like Golf Galaxy, Golfsmith, Edwin Watts, etc and have a pro fit him based on his height and swing speed. He should be able to pick out a very good beginner set for $500- $600 that would include a few woods. I realize you don't have much money but without a fitting and the recommendation from the the golf store personnel you are most likely throwing your money away. Do you realize you could become a golf widow before you get married? Lucky fiance. However, if you must stay on a tight budget, look around for a set of Dunlops. They are probably the least expensive and will work as well as the brands you listed.

Without know actual set composition it's hard to answer fully, but I will anyway… As another pointed out, at the beginning it's the user not the clubs. However the Titan and Top Flite are both good brands and will last your fiance for many years.FORE!

I would say the best qualtiy of clubs here is the Top Flite XL, they are good quality name brand. But you should also see some other sets from Sports Authority, they are also good.

Do any of these sets have hybrids with them? If so buy that set, they are much easier to hit than standard irons/faiway woods

Actually it does not really. it's just the person using the clubs that's all.
