Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Why is that any sports star is paid so much for playing any game? It is unreal just the money some guys get for signing a contract. Then the owners build these huge stadiums and price the little guy out of attending the live games. At least people can afford to attend a golf tournament. Sponsors lay down the bucks to pay the winner of a golf tournament. But it the the sponsorship deals the players make that bring in the big bucks. If people continue to buy the products, the company will continue to pay out the big bucks for the big names. The further down the leaderboard, the less the guy makes for hitting that little white ball. Other games, the guy gets paid if he just sits on the bench.Bottom line, it is the little guy who determines how much the guy gets for hitting the little white ball or getting the big round brown ball to go in a hole. One hole is just further off the ground than the other.

Why have you wasted so much of your breath for showing your dislike for Golf or other sports, you could've read another book in this long time, before finding this forum, then this section and then all the reasons, you have given here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Or you think that in football, basketball & baseball people are given balls outside the goal, basket and they simply aim at them, one by one???There are skills involved, in all the activities and depending on one's skills levels, they get paid and here you are talking about no.1 player in the world, who does the job better than most of other human beings, else he won't be no.1.

Because he is an entertainer, a sports entertainer. And believe it or not, tens of millions of people around the world are entertained by him and dream of being like him. It is called idolatry. They are entertained so much to the point of watching him golf on television (which sells advertising), buy the stuff he endorses (which generates $$ millions for his sponsors) and read about him in the news (which sells subscriptions and more advertising). This is in addition to public speaking fees he commands and tournament winnings. He is a money machine and everything he earns is a direct result of him entertaining people through golf. I too scratch my head to as to why people are so entertained by a guy who whacks a little white ball and can get it in a whole with fewer attempts than anyone else. Each to his own I guess. I am more entertained by musicians, authors and actors.

I would like to expand upon the only good answer I read – which is Gbeck's – Look at every other TEAM sport and the amounts that high profile players demand . Golf is an individual competition with only yourself to blame , and if you don't make the cut , you DON'T GET PAID ! yes , endorsements are lucrative , but no more excessive than any other sport . If you don't play the game at a high level , you will never fully understand how difficult it is to shoot low numbers under tournament conditions – the pressure is much greater than with team sports . @thelau you make me laugh…almost all the questions here is about what happen to tiger wood..lolanyway so true that this is a traditional game played by rich people and since majority of the members are came from a rich family then naturally they can pay and play no matter how high the cost..http://www.correctgolfswingtips.com/

It's more tradition than anything. Golf has always been considered a rich person's game so they've always put a ton of money down for a game. And I thank you for not asking some stupid "What happened to Tiger Woods?" question.

"…In 2008, he made approximately $12 million playing golf and an additional $110 million in endorsements from sponsors such as Buick and Nike — making him the highest-earning sports star."final answer – endorsements.but i totally agree with you…
