Best Answer – Chosen by Voters 1st of all you need to make sure what you call a "Hook"is in fact a hookAssuming you are a right hander?A Hook starts out to the RIGHT of the target line and then bends to the LEFT If your shot is starting LEFT and then going further LEFT It is NOT a hook it is in fact a PULL with a closed club face. You MUST make that the distinction because the reason for and thus the cure for the shot is different Why?Well a slice and a pull are produced with a similar swing path, That is outside to insideA Hook and a push are produced with a inside to out swing pathA fantastic book if you can get hold of it is called "The 9 Bad Shots in Golf and What to do About Them"by Jim Dante & Leo DeigelTry googleThe is not enough space here to adequately explain what to doSo I would suggest you get the book or see a PRO

Slices come from an open face cause by rotation of the lower body and a back swing that lifts straight back and up instead of back and around your body. If the wrists/hands are tight and don't twist open at impact then it's only one thing and that is you're turning your hips around at the same time you're attempting to accelerate and strike the ball. The irony is that once the hips start their rotation the arms slow down and the right elbow is flexed at impact causing an open club face. The natural instinct is to compensate by swinging around your body and most likely you're flipping your wrists right before impact. So the reality is that you get frustrated and you're going from one extreme to the other. You need to find a swing that you can control. You are approaching your shot at impact and "closing the face" of your club by rolling your wrists, thus hooking your shot. Try keeping your right arm straight at impact and following right through the shot keeping a good balance all the way. A slightly open club face will also prevent a hook.

I had the same problem. It comes to the exact moment you hit the ball your club is slanted inward/outward because of a twist in your wrist or the positioning of your arms. Do it slowly and be conscious of keeping the clubs face even with the ball and you'll hit it straight.

Your swing changes over time. When it changes you should adjust to where the ball hooks too and try to aim where it will Land..ex. Aim Left if you are right handed and it will hook to the right and land in the fairway or close to it. Source(s): Same problem

You can't hook it if you get through the ball. By this I mean turn your hips faster. For example Tiger gets through the ball very well which is why his misses are usually right and not left.

It's a two fold problem. One is that your not athletic and two is that your golf game is garbage.
