Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Out of the sand you want to play the club that has the most loft. That way the ball will get out easier. I recommend using your short iron for greenside bunkers (Ones right by the green) and I reccomend your mid iron for fairway bunkers (Ones far from the hole along the fairway)

With just those clubs, you'd want to use the "short iron" on most sand shots around the green. I would recommend that you add a Sand Wedge to your bag. Like anything else as a beginner, you don't need to spend premium dollars for a top-line club, especially for the amount you'll be using it. But a Sand Wedge has a specially designed sole (the base of the club that would rest on the floor if you were holding the club normally). This design keeps the clubhead from digging into the sand too deeply, so you can complete a full swing from the sand bunker. Your regular irons wouldn't have that, so it would be much harder to learn this shot if you tried using them.

I just checked the specifications online for that set.It says that the "Short Iron" has 55* of loft. That is the loft of a normal sandwedge, anywhere form 54*-56*. So that is definately your sand club, it's exactly like a sandwedge!I hope this helps you out, have fun learning golf! Source(s): k

You really need to get a sand wedge or some sort of high lofted wedge (lob wedge, gap wedge, 56 degrees +) for sand shots. The high lofted wedges are the only club that the trailing edge will contact the surface (sand) before the leading edge and will cause the 'bounce' necessary to loft the ball out of the sand. You can pick up cheap wedges (5-20$) from most golf courses that sell used clubs that had been lost from the previous year.

The short iron if the face of the club has a slant on it. so it can get underneath the ball that is what you want to do…hit the ground right behind the ball and generally follow thru unless u have no room on the green for the ball to runHope this helps and don't give up great game and really helps you relax we all need to do that
