Best Answer – Chosen by Voters

I recently discovered the $1.50 solution. You’re gonna smell freshly shaved! But Gilette original shaving cream…spray the foam on….work it all nice with your fingers and then use a damp cloth to rub it in. You’d be surprised how the house smells after you clean a few spots. If you are wall to wall in a heap of mess, I’m thinking a little baking soda sprinkled everywhere…then you need to do some dancing around to rub it all in good with your shoes on and then that should help. But you could always move! haha!

I’m all over the Nature’s Miracle idea if you have biological smells (i.e. vomit, urine and fecal matter) in your carpet. But, I had a Siberian Husky who just had his own, well “perfume”. No matter how much I bathed him, soaked him in my hubby’s cologne, sprayed him with doggie deoderant, changed his diet, etc., he still left this pervasive odor wherever he slept, sat and was.

I started sprinkling 20 Mule Team Borax on the carpet every time I vacuumed (and with him that was about every other day because he shed so much). Sometimes, I would leave it on the carpet overnight and vacuum in the morning. Soon enough his perfume faded away. I replaced it with Love My Pet sprinkled on the carpet once a week and he started to smell like that instead. I also bought him a cedar filled bed from the Fosters Smith catalog.

I found working it on both ends solved the problem. But if you no longer have the dog, borax alone should do the trick.

The easiest way is to find a carpet cleaner in your area and let go of the $400 it cost to have your carpets shampooed while you go and see a movie.

Use white vinegar to wash the carpets with. A solution of white vinegar and carpet cleaner or washing up liquid works great.

In addition, I suggest using Nature’s Miracle products. You can get it in bulk at major petstores. It eliminates odors through the use of enzymes and has worked wonders for me.
